Declines in U.S. Postal Service Mail Vary Widely Across the United States

The much-discussed decline of mail via the postal service obscures differences among types of mail, regions of the country, and types of households.  Between 1995 and 2013 first class mail volume declined by 61%, but in some areas the decline was close to zero.  Suggests that studying varying levels of demand might improve customer service plans.  From the Office of the Inspector General of the U.S. Postal Service
