Russia’s Accession to the WTO and Its Implications for the United States

Russia is scheduled to become a member of the World Trade Organization in December 2011.  Congress will be faced with the question of whether to grant Russia permanent normal trade relations with the U.S., a status that all WTO members are required to provide to each other.  This report reviews Russia’s major WTO commitments and how Russian admission to the WTO will affect U.S.-Russian trade relations.  From the Congressional Research Service, posted by the Federation of American Scientists
