Number of Doctorates Awarded Continue to Grow: Indicators of Employment Outcomes Mixed

Reports that nearly 50,000 research doctorates were awarded in 2009, an increase of 1.6% over 2008.  The proportion of 2009 doctorate recipients with employment prospects for the coming year was slightly less than reported for 2008.  Offers detailed statistics about characteristics of doctorate recipients and fields of study.  From the National Science Foundation
