Census Bureau Releases County and Metro Area Population Estimates for 2009

State Government Tax Collections in 2009

State tax collections totaled $715.2 billion in fiscal year 2009, down 8.6% from 2008.  Five states led by Wyoming at +14.9% had increases, while Virginia was one of 14 states with declines of more than 10%.  From the Census Bureau.

Paid Sick Leave in the United States

U.S. employers are not required by law to provide paid leave benefits for their employees.  This issue of Program Perspectives examines paid sick leave benefits, including the percentage of employees with access to paid sick leave benefits and employer costs for sick leave.  Reports that paid sick leave benefits were available to 61% of private industry workers and 89% of state and local government workers in March 2009.  From the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
